A Perfect Sign
The new place functions as branch office has been chosen. It is not a big construction, but all 40 new candidates of the company could work together here. The idea of taking this 2 story building was actually for warehouse; however, probably we are at the peak point of our hard work for 10 years, my boss prefers to use it as working place at the first floor, and all items, stocks and inactive machineries are placed on the second floor.
After a little renovation and decoration, we then supply the prepared rooms with all necessities; bookcases, desks, chairs, cabinets, computer sets and other relevant things. Electrical installation is also the main thing to consider because most of our activities are dependent on electricity. All recommended signs, such as Exit Sign, must be placed appropriately. We don’t want to experience another problem just like in the main office.
It was quite clear in my mind when a slight typhoon struck our 6 story headquarter in the main street. Big wind blew definitely hard and caused a big tree to fall down that afternoon. The city was in a blackout for a moment, but it resulted in panics. People could hardly stay calm inside the building. They preferred going out avoiding the worst thing might happen to them. The Main door is big, as a matter of fact, but not big enough for more than 20 people trying to go out at the same time. Alternative exit doors in the back side were quite difficult to reach since the light of exit signs was also off. Shortly, there were 12 of 80 people from the office got injured; luckily, none must be hospitalized.
Now, I don’t want to gamble with any cheap cost of safety. I contacted local professional service on this issue, consulting what is the best and employing them to carry on the process. It is quite important when we find out that these EXIT SIGNS are the main guidance to following by the time of emergency; they may surely not just be simply written on the wall or hung on the ceiling. The light source is also playing important role, though the sign is particularly around 30x60cm, but the light is supposed to be enough to lead our eyes on the way to exit.
Compared to the date when the accident in headquarter, I surely have to apply the best energy source for the light of exit signs in this new office.
