If you are undecided whether to buy a desktop or a laptop computer, then you may want to read on in order to find the advantages and disadvantages of each. One option will probably work best for you, so be sure that you make the best choice.

When home computers were first brought on the market all computers were desktop models. Today, all these computers have their CPU in a tower, which gives them many advantages. Even though they have been available for many years, there are some advantages to desktop computers.

The larger computers tend to cost less than laptop computers. Although the prices have dropped for laptops, the other machines remain the better buy. In addition, the machine that utilizes the tower tends to have more options.

The older style computers are also easier to upgrade. While laptops can be upgraded, it is only on a limited basis and more expensive than upgrading a computer that has most of its components located in a tower.

One of the drawbacks of computers that have a separate keyboard, monitor, mouse and CPU is that they are not portable. Additionally, they are less energy efficient and are more difficult to set up. These computers do not retain resale value as well aslaptop computers do.

Laptop computers, which are also called notebook computers are smaller than the other models. They offer portability and use less energy.

Portability is one of the greatest advantages of laptop computers. They can be used almost anywhere that you are protected from the elements. Internet access is easy in any wi-fi hotspot. Setting up a wi-fi router in your home allows you to access the internet without connecting any wires.Laptop computers have a built in battery that is charged from home current or can be charged from an automobile.

Laptops are an excellent choice for persons with limited space. They are great for college students living in dorm rooms as well as anyone in a home where there is not room for a computer workstation to be set up. The computer can be set up and taken down in only a few minutes. The only cord requiring attachment is the power cord. When done for the day, the computer can be closed and stored for the day.

A laptop will cost more than a tower type home computer with the same performance. Additionally, it is easier for someone to steal your laptop. Because of the small space, it is easy heat to build up in the laptop and this limits upgrades. You will also find that repairs are more expensive.

Netbook computers are small notebooks. They have a small keyboard and may have a small CPU. They do not have a CD or DVD drive.
